Scott Smith has spent over 20 years on the commercial side of the Packaging industry. Working for both brand owners and packaging machinery OEMs has given him a unique perspective of the industry. His knowledge and experience in the Global packaging market, combined with his understanding of strategic sales, marketing, planning and business development have made him proven leader in the industry. As Vice President Sales-EMEA for BW Integrated Systems, Scott leads both key account and new equipment sales teams, while continuing to lead the global marketing and business development teams. Scott’s teams are charged with the growth & development of targeted market segments around the world, as well as helping to create greater brand awareness and thought leadership opportunities for the company. Scott’s team is also focused on gaining the ‘voice of the customer’ and developing creative opportunities that enhance the customer experience and build customer trust. “The people-centric culture of Barry-Wehmiller, the value-based leadership, and the seemingly unlimited potential for growth all contributed to my decision to join the company. I am proud to work for a company where leaders are expected to lead…not manage.” Scott joined Barry-Wehmiller in 2014.
Scott began his career in the consumer packaged goods industry nearly 20 years ago as a Sales Manager with Coca-Cola in the Northern California market. In 1997, he joined Hartness International and led the company’s sales efforts in the Western US, Asia and Australia. In his 16 year career with Hartness, Scott held numerous leadership roles in sales, innovation, strategic marketing and business development, including serving as Director of Sales for North America and Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, with a primary focus in Europe and Asia. In 2009, after Hartness was acquired by ITW, Scott was instrumental in the marketing & business development for ITW's Global Packaging Solutions Group.
Scott is involved in both the packaging industry and in his local community, having served on leadership committees for the Packaging Machinery Manufacturing Institute (PMMI), North America's largest trade association for packaging machinery, and has also served on the board of South Carolina-based Public Education Partners. Scott is graduate of Vanderbilt University and lives in Greenville, SC with his wife, Krista, and his children, Jackson and Sydney. When not traveling he enjoys road biking and spending time with his family.
